Severn Bore, February 2015

The first batch of five-star bores this year happened in February. I took my camera down to Newnham for the first on a misty Friday morning (20 February) and then to Newnham and Minsterworth for the second on a bright Saturday morning (21 February).

Dursley Dozen 2015, Gloucestershire, February 2015

One picture of the Dursley Dozen 2015 race, taken just after the start as runners ascend the Broadway into the woods on Stinchcombe Hill. The course is a gruelling 12 miles of many ups and downs, mostly off-road.

Wycliffe Big Head, Frampton-on-Severn, Gloucestershire, February 2015

There was no ice or strong winds this year so the Wycliffe Big Head was run as scheduled on the 4500m course from Slimbridge to Fretherne along the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. I waited at Frampton for rowers to pass in the morning race.

Star Trails, Gloucestershire, December/January 2014/15

Two pictures of star trails over Frocester Church, both derived from the same set of 62 exposures of 2 minutes each. The first is with a constant exposure throughout and the second is with an increase of 0.03EV from one exposure to the next; both reaching the same final exposure. There were two final exposures, one with lighting applied to the outside of the spire and one to the inside.

Short-eared owls, Hawling, Gloucestershire, November/December 2014

A few pictures of some short-eared owls hunting in the late afternoon over a couple of uncultivated fields at Hawling on the Cotswolds.
